Honestly for the small size lights, the magnetic mount and the light quality is amazing. But the diffuser magnet is pretty weak and falls off easily if you accidentally hit it. It is sturdy so it doesnt break which is nice. But can come off easily. So watch out if you’re planning to use it for action. Also, the small tripod can’t rotate, which would have been possible if they made it round but they made it flat.

For the sake of Full disclosure, I’m very familiar with Amaran products, and I have personally purchased their lights in the past for video work. Like the lights that I’ve purchased previously, this Amaran Ace 25x light is very impressive, and has quite a few useful features. The interface of the light is intuitive, and easy to understand. Like I mentioned, I have experience with these types of lights, and this one is pretty similar to others that I have used in the past, so learning the interface took all of 30 seconds. This maybe trivial to some, but one thing I really appreciate about it, is the on and off switch. I prefer switch to a button, because of personal preferences, and I find it easier to operate more confidently. The light output is excellent. For such a small light, it really produces an impressive amount of luminance. It’s strange to think of a small light like this as a key light, but I think it can certainly operate as one. I personally wouldn’t recommend it as my first choice, but if you are on a budget, and looking for a great all around performer, this can certainly operate as a key light in most circumstances. It has a decent color temperature range for the bicolor option, which is the one that I received. And the kit also comes with some very useful accessories. The magnetic attachment is very useful, quick and easy to use, and can be mounted to the cold shoe on your camera, as well as a 1/4 20 mount to any light stand or tripod. It comes with a small table top tripod, a nice little carrying case, a magnetic diffuser plate, and a magnetic grid plate. The diffuser and the grid plate are very handy, but you can of course use it with a soft diffusion panel, or something like an umbrella mounted to a light stand with the light mounted via a 1/4 20 mount. So, it is very versatile. This little light also has a built in fan to cool the LEDs, and I found it to be relatively quiet. There is also a quiet mode that you can use, which turns the fan off completely, but limits the light output of the light to no more than 25%. The app is a nice clean interface, and very easy to understand, as well as use. Syncing it to Bluetooth is pretty much instantaneous, and the connection is always strong. Of course, you have the usual effects that these types of lights all offer these days, and a very strong built in magnet that is protected with a silicone cover to prevent scratching to whatever mounting surface. I even found the magnet strong enough to keep the light attached to curved metal surfaces. My previous experience with Amaran lights is limited to the small panel lights that I purchased six years ago, and compared to those, this is a huge improvement in quality. The battery lasts a good while, and charges very quickly. From practically 0, you can get to a 90% charge in about 40 to 45 minutes. The last 10% will charge quite a bit more slowly, which I imagine is to preserve overall battery life. All in all, it’s a very compelling package for a reasonable price. Given its size, it’s extremely portable, and easy to store, while offering excellent light output, and versatile capabilities. It certainly can be used as a key light, as well as accent lighting. I struggle to find anything negative to say about it, and would certainly recommend it for those people seeking excellent quality lighting, at a very reasonable price.

Creator Kit, product light, key light for closeup interviewCreator Kit, a professional creator light that surpasses competitors in terms of value for money. It offers exceptional performance and comes with a comprehensive set of accessories. The kit includes a powerful light, a USB-C to USB-C charging cable, a diffuser, a grid, a magnetic quick-lock mount, a mini tripod, and a sturdy carrying case. The PDF manual, available on the website, is clearly written and provides detailed instructions for using the light.A standout feature of the Creator Kit is its clear-clipped color LCD display, equipped with named icons for various functions. Additionally, Amaran offers a user-friendly smartphone/desktop app that enhances the lighting experience. This app allows for intuitive control of multiple lights, similar to its older Sidus Link app. Notably, the app indicated an available firmware update, which was conveniently installed through the app.The Creator Kit offers a range of functions, including intensity and color control. The color temperature can be adjusted from 2700k to 6500k, and the app provides numerous presets, allowing users to save their preferred settings. An interesting feature is the Boost function, which enhances the light’s brightness but shortens the battery life. The Creator Kit generates significant heat, necessitating a built-in fan. This indicates that the light is significantly brighter than most typical camera lights. While the fan is relatively quiet, it’s worth considering when using a sensitive on-camera shotgun mic.A related feature is the ability to switch between Smart and Silent modes. In Smart mode, the fan remains on but dims the light, closely matching the brightness of standard camera lights. This versatility is remarkable, as the light can transition from the incredibly bright Boost mode to the Silent (fanless but dimmer) range. The Silent mode can sustain the light for over 4 hours when fully charged. The Creator Kit includes a sturdy desktop tripod that extends for height control. The tripod is constructed from metal and features its own magnetic mount to the light. The inclusion of a grid in addition to the diffuser helps prevent spillage, which is crucial for product video production. However, the top of the tripod does not rotate, requiring the use of the legs for angle adjustments.Magnets play a crucial role in this light, from the magnetically attached diffuser to the magnetic quick-lock mount. Don’t worry about the mount’s magnetic attachment; there’s also a button that opens and closes a locking mechanism. The mount includes a cold shoe but also has a 1/4” hole for mounting on devices like light stands or magic arms that support that. The magnetic back is noteworthy in that it only covers about 1/3 of the back. This design allows for the placement of the fan, which is essential to prevent overheating. The fan is silicone-coated to protect any metallic surfaces that might be scratched or scraped.Another unique feature is that this light can also be used to charge other devices. There’s an Output mode in the menu that facilitates this function. I’ve included a video walk-through of the menu, where you can also hear the fan recorded a few inches from my phone.Considering its intuitive menu, interesting use of magnets, including the mount, tripod, carry case, boost and silent functions, and output charge features, this light stands out as a class leader at an incredibly competitive price.
