**Note: This review applies specifically to the BL60C model (2500K-9000K + RGB, no app control).**I picked up the Neewer BL60C video light to improve my Amazon reviews and to fool around with for portrait photography. I’m quite impressed!Despite its small size (about as thick as a deck of cards without the removable diffuser), this light is very bright. It’s lightweight, mounting it on my R6 Mark II’s cold didn’t cause any balance issues. In theory, the three cold shoe mounts on the sides and top allow of this light could you to attach additional lights or accessories like a microphone. However, keep in mind that there is no wireless or hardware-based “daisy chaining” – each light needs to be adjusted individually. The BL60C is SUPER easy to use, thanks to its small OLED display and simple button layout:Power/Mode Button: Switches between White, RGB, and Effects modesFunction Button: Determines whether you’re adjusting brightness or an attribute (ex. color temperature)Up/Down Buttons: Modify brightness, hue, color temperature, or programThe OLED screen is a standout feature, offering superb readability in all lighting conditions with great viewing angles. Unlike cheaper LCDs, it doesn’t suffer from washout or contrast issues when viewed off-axis – which drives me batty with some other equipment. This light delivers a color temperature range of 2500K-9000K – while I don’t have a lab-grade meter, my handheld meter was tracking the settings shown on-screen. The RGB mode has clear saturation control, and there are 18 pre-programmed effects. While some effects are useful, they share a common limitation:Effects like “Lightning” flash at a fixed interval (every five seconds). This causes patterns to feel robotic rather than organic: the “flickering bulb” mode should have some unpredictability to it. This somewhat ruins the illusion unless you’re making a ton of cuts in your video. A simple firmware tweak allowing users to adjust the speed or introduce randomness into the programs would make these effects far more versatile, realistic, and usable.Overall, the Neewer BL60C is a fantastic compact video light. While I am not a full-time content creator, I do enjoy it as a hobby–but I could see this being right for a budget-conscious creator. If you aren’t going to rely on this solely for the advertised effects, I think it’s a great product. If you truly need an effects generator, you may want to look into the app-controlled lights in Neewer’s product catalog.

This little light from Neewer is the bee’s knees. I have been impressed with the color accuracy, brightness, and ease of use. I wish the battery life was a little bit better, but for the size, it lasts an acceptable amount of time. If you’re worried about it going out mid-shoot, you can always attach a small usb-c battery to the input of the light and call it a day. It weighs next to nothing and is very portable.Since this is a “dumb” light (meaning no app functionality), you will have to make adjustments using the buttons on the rear panel. I can see that being a little annoying if you are a 1-person operating crew, constantly stepping behind the fixture to read the screen. But in time, I bet the controls can be memorized and you can change them from the front side as needed, simply by feel.I have used this primarily with the cold shoe mount, since that allows for the most flexibility, but the magnetic back panel is a nice touch.Overall, I think this is a great value light by Neewer and have found myself reaching for it on quite a few (hobbyist) photo shoots since adding it to my kit. If I were to buy another one, I would likely spend the extra few dollars and get the model with app capability.

This is a fantastic, versatile, and cheap RGB photo/video light from Neewer, with tons of options. Design seems to borrow heavily from the groundbreaking Ulanzi lights which debuted several years ago. Though the Ulanzi unit is slightly cheaper, the Neewer design is more user-friendly and has a few more; also, according to their stats, the Ulanzi achieves almost twice the brightness of the Neewer, if that matters to you. Neewer also throws in a removable diffuser panel.USB-C charging is quick and convenient, and there are a few options for mounting the light, including a cold shoe, standard tripod threads, and even a pretty strong magnet. I got about 2.5 hours of continuous lighting at 100% from the unit before I had to recharge, I imagine that varies depending on the brightness and other factors. Light is plenty bright for my application of tabletop photography, and the myriad color/luminance/saturation options give you every color and tone you can imagine.Plastic housing so this isn’t something you want to use roughly, but I’ve had my Ulanzi’s for years and when cared for, even a light in a plastic body can last a long time. The rear panel is large and easy to read, much easier to navigate than the competition’s. Besides the standard cool/warm white and RGB colors, the unit features several “modes” like “lightning”, “police car”, “fireworks”, “TV”, etc., so if you are a film or video shooter, you can mimic natural lighting environments with this little beauty. For less than 22 bucks, photographers and videographers can’t afford NOT to have a few of these Neewer RGB lights in their gear bag or studio.
