It’s my first teleprompter and it works fine. The construction is reasonably good (probably except somewhat weak mirror hinges). However the reason I wanted to write this review is to answer popular question: can you use your phone as a camera in this teleprompter?Well, you actually can. However, it’s tricky, since all the iPhone mounts doesn’t take into account the fact that the camera is not in the center of the phone. So you can install any mount into the teleprompter you like, but the camera will be well off-center of the mirror.I managed to overcome this (see photos) by using Neewer ST20 magic arm, a no-name 9x5cm cheese plate, Neewer PA010 magnetic phone holder and a random 1/4 bolt with its head cut. This way you can perfectly center the phone (in my case – iPhone 12 mini) camera. It’s not possible to install the phone very close to the mirror since the teleprompter shade doesn’t have enough space here. The teleprompter parts visible a little bit from phone’s Camera app, but for some reason they aren’t visible if using the phone as Continuity Camera. I’m using iPad 11″ Pro as a screen with BetterDisplay app to mirror its screen. Works well!

This teleprompter has dramatically improved both my eye-contact and easy of filming.1. Adjusting the text scrolling area in the app to be where the camera lens is located will keep your eyes from moving or appearing to look elsewhere. This makes your production more engaging!2. Adjusting the size of text and its scrolling speed will smooth out your vocal quality and this makes the audience more likely to keep watching. What you need to do is practice reading and following at the pace/speed that you feel comfortable with, then practice your script a few times to get your brain used to reading at a regular pace instead of dynamically shifting speed like we do in everyday speech. The result is a better video that people want to listen to.3. The reflectivity of the glass is very good, even in night sunlight. The closer to 45° the better.4. The felt back cover does a great job at keeping light out.5. I’ve been shooting with a mobile phone and this works great. I put the slider as forward as possible and then adjust the horizontal angle to keep the outer cover out of frame. I have had no problems using my phone on 4K video with this teleprompter.Overall I totally recommend this. I got a great deal and it’s made all the difference for my production quality. Get it! ?

The Neewer X12 Teleprompter is the first real teleprompter I’ve used other than a phone app. When it works, it’s amazing. The screen is much more visible than I guessed, and the camera gets beautiful video through it.I started with a telephone in the teleprompter, which worked adequately. It wasn’t any better or worse than using the phone with the phone app. But when I used a GoPro in the teleprompter, I got miserable results! The GoPro can’t be pushed far enough forward to get only the frame of the teleprompter, so you’re stuck cropping your video – significantly.I finally bought a nicer camera (Canon R50), which addressed every problem with the phone or the GoPro. That has worked beautifully, and I’m very pleased with my results! That said, I found if there isn’t much light, you’d better use a lamp or the loss can *really* affect the depth of your video. I had to redo a couple videos when I realized it was just too little light. For sound – maybe it should go without saying, but you need an external mic to use the teleprompter well. Otherwise, you get a very muffled sound that nobody can understand. I think enough said there. The software itself is adequate. Not great, but not awful. When I get the right speed and text size, things flow very smoothly and I love the results. But if you’re too slow or too fast…? It can become noticeable, and I’ve had to redo bits where I simple couldn’t keep up with the teleprompter.Overall, I’m pleased with how everything works, but there are a few bits I wish I could iron out. I also wish the software could scroll based on the sound of the voice, but that’s a pretty advanced piece of functionality, and I’m not expecting it soon! I recommend, although if you find something less expensive, that might be worth a try as well.
