I use it on my 28′ sailboat when I am singlehanding and raising and lowering the mainsail. I wouldn’t use it under sail but that defeats the whole point of sailing, right?

I have used it on my sailboat about 5 times now. Installation was a breeze. Unit is well made, simple to operate. Seems like it uses minimum power. I especially like the 10 degree course adjustment button. As the wind angle changes, I can just reach over and push the button to retrim the boat. Having it is like having a competent sailor at the helm while I go to the foredeck, take pictures, fish, sightsee or whatever. It makes all the adjustments necessary so I can sail–hands off. Well worth the money. Update: Ive had mine about 3 years now and use it heavily. I have had no problems with it.

The media could not be loaded.Worth the price after years of saying I didn’t need one I got an older model with a new to me 25’ sailboat and tried it out and loved how it got me out of my marina bay channel into the lake by just picking a heading and keeping it straight under motor power while I prep the sails and lines. That one died so I replaced it with this newer version which keeps even better heading without losing its bearing and beeping. I’ve sailed across a long lake without needing to fuss with it. So much better than using a tiller tamer or lashing on the tiller. I get to go down below for a drink or reapply sunscreen or go up to the bow and dangle my feet off the side while this steers my boat straight and true to the bar up the lake.I don’t know how waterproof it is but I’ve seen people sew waterproof cases for them. And I found any issues with beeping or losing bearing was 100% due to voltage issues. I use solar panel to keep my batteries up.
